By enabling artists through grants/facilitation/any other form of support, the impact on their lives apparent.  The various initiatives that championed by NAC give artist a metaphorical canvas for expression; an avenue to transform their person-alities into something tangible and beautiful. These initiatives allow the public (their audience) to lose themselves in art, by finding work that they can relate and identify with. These momentary “escapes" transform the otherwise-mundane landscape in Singapore into a truly vibrant and exciting one.

The Sparrow transforms into a Phoenix. The Mandarin-equivalent of the “ugly ducking” story is the inspira-tion behind this piece. The horizontal line represent the impact of Art, which allows ordinary people to transform into truly extraordinary artist when their characters, emotions and opinions transcend into their work.

Writer and Poet Brendan Behan states, ‘A quotation in a speech, article or book is like a rifle in the hands of an infantry man. It speaks with authority’. In line with that thought, we’ve designed the cover for FICTION SINGAPORE with the quotation marks framing the title of this publication, to bring into focus the meaning behind these 2 simple words. It is a bound collection of captivating story highlights and the authors behind them, sneak peeks into their writing journeys and what readers can expect more of.
